{"id":26587,"date":"2017-12-14T14:26:04","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T22:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techykids.com\/?p=26587"},"modified":"2017-12-14T14:26:04","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T22:26:04","slug":"configure-wireless-thymio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/techykids.com\/staging\/3266\/archives\/26587","title":{"rendered":"Configure Wireless Thymio"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 id=\"toc0\">Network configuration guide<\/h1>\n<h2 id=\"toc1\">Wireless Thymio Package Contents<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0<em>Dongle<\/em>\u00a0(USB adapter) that allows the computer to communicate with the Wireless Thymio robots<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<em>Wireless Thymio robot<\/em>\u00a0can communicate with other Wireless Thymio robots and dongles that are connected to the same network.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<em>USB cable<\/em>\u00a0is used to charge the robot and program it (you can also program it in wireless mode).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"blue-background infobox\">\n<p><strong>Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Initially, your Wireless Thymio robot is correctly configured and ready to use with the associated dongle, no need to configure anything for normal use !<\/p>\n<p>For more Thymio robots and\/or dongles to be in the same network, you must satisfy the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>all on the same radio channel<\/li>\n<li>all have the same network identifier<\/li>\n<li>all have a unique node identifier (no nodes having the same\u00a0<tt>nodeID<\/tt>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"toc2\">Configure Wireless Thymio<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"toc3\">I would like that all my robots communicate together with one single dongle.<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/aseba.wdfiles.com\/local--files\/en:thymiosettingwireless\/EN-thymio-wireless-tutorial-1.svg\" alt=\"thymio-wireless-tutorial-1.svg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Usage example: Synchronized actions, I am a school teacher and I stop the robots all together<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"toc4\">Instructions:<\/h2>\n<p>Initially, your Wireless Thymio robot is correctly configured and ready to use with the associated dongle, no need to configure anything unless you have already changed the configuration.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"toc5\">I would like that a dongle communicates only with one single robot<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thymio.org\/local--files\/en:thymiosettingwireless\/EN-thymio-wireless-tutorial-2-b.svg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Usage example: A student has his own Wireless Thymio and doesn&#8217;t want his instructions to interfere with other students&#8217;.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"toc6\">Instructions:<\/h2>\n<div>\n<div class=\"image-container floatright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/aseba.wdfiles.com\/local--files\/en:thymiosettingwireless\/Wireless-configurator.png\" alt=\"Wireless-configurator.png\" width=\"300px\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>On the computer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plug your dongle into your computer.<\/li>\n<li>Open the &#8220;Wireless Thymio Network Configurator&#8221;. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thymio.org\/en:start\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supplied with Aseba<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Choose a\u00a0<span class=\"highlight green-background\">channel<\/span>\u00a0either 0, 1 or 2 (it must be the same channel for robots in the same network. default channel is\u00a0<tt>1<\/tt>).<\/li>\n<li>You can choose a\u00a0<span class=\"highlight orange-background\">network identifier<\/span>\u00a0(default\u00a0<tt>0x404F<\/tt>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do not change<\/strong>\u00a0the dongle node identifier (unless you know why).<\/li>\n<li>Press &#8220;Enable pairing&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>On the Wireless Thymio robot:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Switch on your Wireless Thymio robot (if it was already turned on, turn it off and turn it on again.)<\/li>\n<li>Put the Wireless Thymio into configuration mode by touching both the right and left buttons for 3 seconds and select the light purple mode by touching\u00a0<strong>several times the right button<\/strong>, then validate by touching the\u00a0<strong>centre button<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The dongle and Thymio must flash at the same frequency. Bring the Thymio dongle closer until that is the case.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Thymio purple mode by turning Thymio off (touch the centre button for several seconds), to save the configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Back on the computer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Press\u00a0<span class=\"highlight blue-background\">Flash into dongle<\/span>\u00a0to save the new settings into it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can of course add as many Thymios as you want in a network, for example for performing collective tasks.<\/p>\n<p>If you have lots of robots and they have their own network, it is better to distribute the networks on the 3 available radio channels.<\/p>\n<p>On recent versions of Mac OS X, you have to unplug and re-plug your dongle if you want to start this program again.
